Mix Ideas

I'm looking for mix themes and I'm looking to you. Leave me a one word or short phrase theme, and I'll attempt a mix. I will burn you said mix, if it turns out to be any good.

And...go.

okay, imagine you were to make a mix of your favorite songs. like, i know that's hard, but whatever. if you had to narrow it to 20 or 25, the songs you could listen to over and over, etc. my suggestion for a mix is picking out 25 songs that you have educated guessed made those songs possible. for example, if johnny cash's "orange blossom special" was gonna be on it, you could put bill monroe's version of orange blossom special. or another bill monroe song.

does that make sense? do you have that much older music? something tells me you do.

also, you might be proud to know that i was inspired by cash's autiobio to buy said bill monroe album as well as an original carter family compilation. that's good stuff. i was also surprised to find out that the song "in the pines" sung by kurt cobain on mtv unplugged was also sung by bill monroe. holy cow. i used the word "also" a lot just now.

I'm coming back for more later, but recently I made a mix for Nena called "Every Thing is Bitter Sweet", which is a sentiment I generally subscribe too, just in life. I want to hear your version.

The 20-25 songs that in your most ego-trippin' fantasy moments, you'd hope someone would hear and be reminded of YOU, specifically. you can have a specific someone in mind, or not.

(example: since i was twelve i always wanted a boy to put tom petty's 'wildflowers' on a mix for me and really, really mean it. for me.)

I made a mix a while back (about 20 songs) entirely of artist I listen to specifically because someone else introduced me to them. I call the mix "Influences" and it is one of the best mixes I've ever made. It's got a lot of variety and it makes me think of the people who opened my hears to new sounds.

I'd love to hear your influences mix.

As I read your post an attic immediately came to mind. I pictured myself in my parents attic going through all the boxes of stuff. The scene in my head is grainy and the exploration is slow and meticulous for these boxes are filled with history - our family's history. Meanwhile, there is a soundtrack accompanying this scene in my head. The songs fit with what's going on in the attic. Some of the songs are melancholy so as to reflect what's found in certain boxes. Some of the songs are just maddening; some heavy; some ecstatic. There's a flow to this soundtrack that fits with what's being discovered in the attic.

So I want you to put your talents to use and make an attic mix.
